AAF 2020 Open Call for Participation – Special curated section with free exhibition space
Art & Technology
A showcase of contemporary artwork that develops a critical engagement with our current technological contexts
The Armenia Art Fair has devoted a core component of its programme to the topic of Art & Technology since its first edition in 2018. Its extraordinary success has encouraged us to continually expand this platform for debate and knowledge exchange, hosting talks, workshops, installations and presentations. The Art & Technology programme for 2020 is becoming more ambitious, with the aim to eventually become a standalone festival alongside the Art Fair.
As part of this expansion, in this year’s edition we aim to present for the first time a specially curated Art & Technology section within the AAF, to showcase artists whose work explores contemporary practice at the crossroads of the analogue and the digital, visual image, matter, sound and technology. Unlike the core of the Art Fair, this section is also open to submissions from independent artists, therefore providing the opportunity for them to showcase their work directly, without the need for intermediaries such as established galleries or curators.
Technology is now completely embedded in our everyday activities, and we believe that artistic practice can provide the tools to better understand the impact of technology in contemporary life, giving visibility to its underlying structures and potential.
More and more artists are engaging with cutting-edge technologies and scientific research in their work, both to push the limits of a new set of radical tools, and to seek new ways of understanding the world in which we live. At the same time, strictly analogue techniques and traditional craft-based methods are also providing artists with striking ways to develop a critical engagement with our current technological contexts.
